About The Collection

Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry, where so much is expressed in a few simple lines. The same is true for Gamfratesi’s poetically designed sofa that was launched by Fredericia in 2012. Haiku was received to so much success in its first years, that in 2015 Gamfratesi added a low back version, Haiku Low, to the Collection.

In Haiku a protectively encompassing outer shell is combined with a softer interior, providing an intimate enclosure. Haiku is an enveloping sofa that invites reflection and refuge. Gamfratesi is Danish/Italian design duo Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi, and references to their inherited juxtaposition of design cultures are easily identified in Haiku. The design is clear and well conceived, incorporating an interesting twist that gives the sofas a modern appearance. The contrast between the enveloping outer shell and the soft, intimate inner is highlighted by a contrasting combination of textiles. With delicate legs, Haiku seems to almost hover above the ground.

Haiku sofas can be part of largers environments, where the high rise back creates intimate spaces. With the lower back of Haiku Low, the sofa fits perfectly into private homes and other interiors. Combined with the high-backed Haiku, an unexpected contrast between two personalities is created.

Haiku is an eye-catching and inviting design statement for hotel lobbies, executive offices and private homes. The modern contemporary design partners well with both high-tech and classical interiors.

"WE TRY TO FIND A BALANCE BETWEEN THE TRADITIONAL AND THE SURPRISING, BETWEEN HARMONY AND DISHARMONY."

Danish-Italian design duo GamFratesi is quickly becoming a rising star in the design world with their poetically organic, yet defined, style that bridges northern and southern design culture. Contrasts are the central source of their inspiration and together with Fredericia they balance tradition with the unexpected.

GamFratesi studio was founded in 2006 by Danish architect Stine Gam and Italian architect Enrico Fratesi. Although the studio is based in Copenhagen, Stine and Enrico are constantly travelling between Italy and Denmark.

GamFratesi’s designs takes their creative drive from a combination of tradition and the contemporary in an experimental approach with materials and techniques. With their dual traditional background, Stine and Enrico draw on classic Danish furniture and craft traditions, as well as the classic Italian intellectual and conceptual approach. From this cross-cultural substrate they create furniture that respectfully reflects tradition while also featuring subtlety embedded stories, symbols and associations.

GamFratesi are the award winners of the 2015 Finn Juhl Architectural Prize, 2015 Milano Design Award, Guest of Honour at the 2014 Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair, 2013 Elle Decoration International Design Award and the Three-Year Working Grant from the Danish Arts Foundation.
