During the London Design Festival 2019, guests, partners, the press and friends of Fredericia were treated to a viewing. Our Product & Design Manager, Rasmus Graversen, gave a talk on our core values while guests had the opportunity to see one of our natural leather craftsmen demonstrate the workmanship that goes into our most iconic piece, The Spanish Chair by Børge Mogensen.

Fredercia´s design ethos revolves around the principles of Børge Mogensen, a pioneer of Danish Modern who defined the design direction of Fredericia from 1955 – 1972. Mogensen was a peer of Hans J Wegner and Finn Juhl, whose ambition was to create durable, purposeful furniture that would enrich people’s everyday lives.

“It is of great importance that the things we buy and use do not need replacement, but instead grow old with dignity and charm" - Børge Mogensen and Andreas Graversen

Mogensen was one of the first designers to formulate an ethical approach to danish modern furniture, which was in opposition to the growing consumerism of Scandinavian society at the time. True to his uncompromising ideals, Mogensen tried to connect long-lasting quality, responsible production, natural materials and human empathy. While still insisting on his signature artistic approach, which remains his trademark to this day.

For over three generations, Fredericia has continued to honour Mogensen’s original thinking while bring new designs to market. In addition to our collection of timeless classics by Mogensen and other design masters, we work with renowned contemporary names such as Jasper Morrison, Cecilie Manz and Space Copenhagen.
