Cecilie Manz
With discreet and playful aesthetics, Cecilie’s work demonstrates that functional details are able to create the aesthetic essence of an object in a subtle way. Early recognition of her contribution to Danish design began with the award-winning Micado side table designed for Fredericia in 2004, and later the Post Collection launched in 2019.
Considered one of Denmark’s most acclaimed designers and internationally renowned for her combination of Scandinavian lines and functionality together with contemporary style resulting in several iconic designs awarding her numerous significant prizes and accolades for her conceptual works.

Founded her own studio in 1998
Cecilie Manz was born in the Odsherred region of Denmark and, as the daughter of parents occupied with art and design she grew up respecting handicrafts.
After graduating from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts - The School of Design in 1997, including studies at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Cecilie Manz founded her studio in Copenhagen in 1998. Here, Cecilie Manz works with design of industrially manufactured products and experimental prototypes and sculptural one-offs.
Recipient of the Thorvald Bindesbøll Medal 2011 (Denmark), the Bruno Mathsson Prize 2009 (Sweden), the Finn Juhl Architectural Prize 2007 (Denmark), The Crown Prince Couples Cultural Award 2014 (Denmark), Designer of the Year 2018, Maison&Objet Paris, E. Kold Christensen’s Award of Honour, Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres 2019 (France), the lifelong Honourable Award from the Danish Art Foundation (Denmark), Honourable Award from the Danish National Banks Foundation 2021.
Every Thing Matters: In the Studio with Cecilie Manz
Cecilie Manz's work can appear effortless and proportionate, reflecting her reluctance to make things more complicated than they need to be. Instead, she focuses on finding the balance between an object feeling resolved and the construction being driven by logic. Her process often begins with reduction: removing what is unnecessary until only what is essential remains.
This approach has allowed the Post Lounge Chair to become unusually light, not only in its construction but also visually. Its pared-back frame gave the designer the opportunity to "turn up the colour" of the upholstered seat, creating a considered contrast between structure and softness.
Taking the Post collection as our starting point, we visited Cecilie Manz's studio to discover what inspires her, how she approaches her work, and where she finds meaning in the everyday.
Extending a Design Language
The Post Collection, which includes the Post Table and Post Chair, takes its name from Fredericia’s showroom in Copenhagen, located in a former post office building, a context that quietly underpins its identity.
With the introduction of the Post Lounge Chair we expand the Post Collection adding a more relaxed typology. As a long-term collaborator, Manz continues to refine rather than redefine, extending her design language of clarity and restraint into an additional mode of sitting.
The Post Lounge Chair Manz extends the collection into lounge and living settings while maintaining its structural clarity of form. Scale, proportion, and comfort have been carefully adjusted to support a more relaxed posture, while retaining the same sense of presence characteristic of the collection.
