A Danish Design Icon Reimagined
Børge Mogensen's The Hunting Chair turns 75. To celebrate the anniversary, an exclusive limited edition of just 75 pieces has been released. Bold yet understated, functional yet deeply human, the chair continues to exemplify the elegance of Danish modern design.
In 1950, against the backdrop of an imagined pine-clad hunting cabin, Børge Mogensen unveiled a chair that went on to become one of his most defining works. Designed for the annual Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition in Copenhagen, The Hunting Chair reflected Mogensen’s lifelong pursuit: to create furniture that connects to its surroundings, balancing utility, material honesty and human comfort. With its low, reclining stance, exposed wooden frame, and robust saddle leather, it was equally bold and functional, grounded in tradition yet unmistakably modern.
Seventy-five years later, this icon is celebrated with a 75th Anniversary Edition, crafted for collectors and enthusiasts who cherish enduring design and the lasting legacy of Børge Mogensen and Danish craftsmanship.
“ For me, The Hunting Chair isn’t just a design icon. It’s part of my personal history. It’s a piece that’s been lived with, moved around, sat in, and loved. I think that’s exactly what my grandfather wanted: furniture that becomes part of people’s lives. ”
Rasmus Graversen, CEO and 3rd generation of the Graversen family
A Tribute to Craftsmanship
Crafted in Denmark from FSC-certified ash with a light oil finish, the chair’s natural grain is elegantly complemented by dark brown saddle leather, light brown hand-stitching, and polished chrome buckles. Each piece is fitted with a discreet steel anniversary plate engraved with Mogensen’s signature and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the craftsman who brought it to life.
A Personal Legacy
The ash version of The Hunting Chair was produced only once before in the late 1970s, in collaboration with Mogensen and Andreas Graversen, then-owner of Fredericia. This rare edition has remained part of the Graversen family’s private collection until now.
For Rasmus Graversen, CEO and third-generation owner of Fredericia, The Hunting Chair has been part of his life for as long as he can remember. His childhood home was filled with Mogensen furniture and prototypes that the family tested for comfort before production. One day, as a young teenager, he moved a rare ash version of The Hunting Chair from the living room into his bedroom.
When he later moved out, the chair came with him. From his teenage bedroom in Denmark to his young adult life in Berlin and Copenhagen, The Hunting Chair was a constant presence.
The new 75-piece Anniversary Edition not only honours Mogensen’s legacy but also exemplifies the timeless qualities of an exceptional design: simplicity, material integrity, and connection to everyday life.
